The fourth edition of the ITU's Asia-Pacific Telecommunication Indicators has been prepared especially for ASIA TELECOM 2000 (Hongkong SAR, 4-9 December 2000). The publication consists of three partsan analytical overview, regional statistics and a directory of telecommunication organizations.

Policy-making and regulation in Asia-Pacific
In the past couple of years, Asia Pacific, like most other regions of the world, has witnessed the continuing expansion of private capital in the telecommunication sector. The rise of private ownership has mainly come about through the award of new licenses. In contrast with developments in the early to mid-1990s, the privatization of incumbent telephone operators has not played a significant role in the rise of private investment in the region.
