General information relating to the protection of telecommunication cables and associated hardware against corrosion, mechanical damage, chemical damage and biological damage may be found in the ITU-T handbook “Outside plant technologies for public networks”. Information of particular importance to the protection of optical fibre cables is included in this chapter.
