Proceedings of the 2014 ITU Kaleidoscope Academic Conference. St. Petersburg, Russian Federation, 3 - 5 June 2014
The Kaleidoscope 2014 conference - Living in a converged world - impossible without standards? - was the sixth in a series of peer-reviewed academic conferences organized by the Telecommunication Standardization Sector of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU-T) with the technical co-sponsorship of the IEEE Communications Society, the Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers (IEICE) of Japan, and the Popov Society of the Russian Federation. These papers at K-2014 focused on innovative approaches to research on the role of ICT standardization in today's global economy characterized by accelerating convergence of industry sectors and technologies. These conference proceedings include the full text of papers accepted for lecture and poster presentations (after a double-blind review by a panel of over 100 subject matters), as well as three invited papers and a summary of the keynote speeches. The 37 papers reproduced here should provide readers with valuable information relating to this essential field of studies. www.itu-kaleidoscope.org/2014

Chair's Message
The ITU Kaleidoscope series of conferences debuted in 2008 has grown into a well-recognized platform for the exchange of ideas between researchers and standardization experts working to advance the state-of-theart of information and communication technology (ICT). The ITU academia membership category, launched in 2011, fortified the cause of the Kaleidoscope series, and the conference is increasing in importance as academia scales-up its engagement in ITU work. I would like to express my appreciation to ITU for selecting Bonch-Bruevich Saint-Petersburg State University of Telecommunications (SPbSUT) as this year’s host as well as my gratitude for the professionalism with which ITU organized the event.
